Let’s Go Exploring

Let’s Go Exploring

5 Places to Hike in North Carolina

Summer is right around the corner and the heat is coming. The pollen is almost gone and people are itching to get out of their houses and move. If you are someone who needs to be in nature and explore, here are five great locations to take a trail or two.

Just make sure you are well hydrated and have good walking shoes!

Chimney Rock, Rutherford County, North Carolina

This is a great trail up to one of North Carolina’s most iconic spots. When you reach the top you will be able to have a spectacular 75-mile panoramic view of Lake Lure & Hickory Nut Gorge. Chimney Rock is a wonderful place to bring your camera for a selfie.

Murphy River Walk, Murphy, North Carolina

This river walk is beautiful to see throughout the seasons. As you make your way down the trail you will come across about 19 posts with QR codes which will lead you to the audio tour about the history and life around the river. Take some time to just listen and enjoy the nature around you.

Devil’s Courtyard, Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina

Like this name might suggest, this trail is not angelic hike but if you like hard, strenuous trails then you should conquer the Devil’s Courthouse. Located in the Blue Ridge Parkway, this short but memorable trip will leave you breathless, in two ways. The view is spectacular when you do reach the top.

Fontana Dam And Visitor Center, Fontana Dam, North Carolina

This dam has a history dating all the way back to World War II and is the highest dam in North Carolina, at a stunning height of 480 feet which means its about as high as a 50-story skyscraper! Take the trail, climb the tower, and see the history at the visitor center. There are also hikers’ showers available for a place to cool off after your trek.

Pickens Nose, Franklin, North Carolina

This trail is nestled near the Appalachian Trail in Franklin, North Carolina. It features a rhododendron forest and angular rock outcrops. This is a bit harder trail with a few places that require caution, the view and scenery is worth it. Bring your sense of adventure and a good pair of hiking boots.
