Our QDR Hometown Hero of the Week is Jay Byrd, Firefighter, EMS, and Search and Rescue, Rescue Diver from Spring Lake.
Jay was nominated by Lanie Ward, who says, “Our dad is a full-time firefighter with Spout Springs Fire dept, EMT/ firefighter for Medic 13/Benhaven Emergency Services of Olivia, a firefighter for Carolina Trace, and for Anderson Creek Fire. A dad of 7 girls and four boys and grandpa to three sweet grand babies. He serves his entire county, not just one city, and is always happy to run a call whether the middle of eating dinner or just sitting down. He trains with the Harnett County Dive and never meets a stranger. He’s currently enrolled in three colleges to both further his education in his IT career but to also better his skills in the Emergency Responder world to serve the public. Our dad was deployed to help hurricane victims twice last year and never hesitated to deny that call to duty. He’s the real definition of a hero. Years ago, I never would have thought that until I saw his acts of service which shows my siblings and I, and our county, his true calling for service.”
Thank you, Jay, for your service! As a token of our appreciation, we’re sending you a $50 gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q to thank you for all you do.
