16th Annual Gail Parkins Memorial Ovarian Cancer Walk & 5K Run

September 15, 2018 7:00 am - September 15, 2018 12:00 pm

The 16th annual Gail Parkins Memorial Ovarian Cancer Walk & 5K Run will take place at Sanderson High School!

All registrations open at 7:30AM with refreshments provided by Dunkin Donuts. The competitive 5K run will start at 8:30AM and the 2-mile walk will start at 10:30AM. It is a fun event for the entire family! This year’s event will have a wonderful marketplace to shop with many different vendors and a great silent auction with over 100 items to bid on.

The 5k run was added in 2009 with great success as the run goes through the popular Shelley Lake area greenways. The childrens area is always expanding with face painting and inflatables. The DJ plays fun and lively music for all ages and the celebration of the ovarian cancer survivors is always a highlight.

Over 25,000 people have participated in this event over the past 15 years and over 4 million dollars has been raised ALL of which goes to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at the Duke Cancer Institute. Each year, over 100 survivors come out to be celebrated and recognized. This is the only ovarian cancer specific event in the triangle and the only ovarian cancer walk in all of North Carolina.
