China accuses US of cyberattack on national time center
BEIJING (AP) — China has accused the U.S. National Security Agency of cyberattacks on its national time center. The Ministry of State Security claims the U.S. agency exploited vulnerabilities in a foreign mobile phone brand’s messaging services in 2022. It allegedly stole sensitive information from the National Time Service Center’s staff. The ministry also says the U.S. used 42 types of cyberattack tools to target the center’s internal systems between 2023 and 2024. The time center is crucial for generating and distributing China’s standard time. The U.S. Embassy has not commented. Limp Bizkit band members say bass player Sam Rivers died on Saturday. His bandmates are praising him as “pure magic” and “the soul in the sound.” Lead singer Fred Durst says Rivers’ musical gift is going to keep on giving. The 48-year-old Rivers had previously left the band in 2015 due to liver disease but rejoined three years later. Limp Bizkit is scheduled to tour Central and South America starting in late November. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Bryce Young threw a touchdown pass before leaving with an ankle injury, and Jaycee Horn grabbed two interceptions as the Carolina Panthers beat the New York Jets 13-6. The win marked the Panthers’ third straight victory, their first such streak with Young as the starting quarterback since he was drafted as the No. 1 overall pick in 2023. Young left the game in the third quarter and replaced by Andy Dalton. The Jets remained winless under coach Aaron Glenn, who benched Justin Fields in the second half in favor of Tyrod Taylor. TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israel has struck targets in the southern Gaza Strip after it said its troops came under fire from Hamas militants, in the first major test of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire meant to halt more than two years of war. Members of the Palestinian group used an RPG and Israel responded with airstrikes and artillery on Sunday, the military said. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held consultations with Israel’s security heads and directed the military to take “strong action” against any ceasefire violations, but did not threaten to return to war. Thieves strike Louvre in brazen jewel heist as the world’s most visited museum shuts
PARIS (AP) — Thieves have pulled off a daring heist at the Louvre, using a basket lift to reach the museum on Sunday morning. They forced a window, smashed display cases, and fled with jewels of “inestimable value,” according to France’s interior minister. The museum closed for the day as police sealed gates and ushered visitors out. The robbery took place in the Galerie d’Apollon, where part of the French Crown Jewels are displayed. Jordan Staal had two goals, Jesperi Kotkaniemi also scored, and Brandon Bussi made 25 saves for the Hurricanes.
