Hometown Hero of the Week: Brittany Thomas, July 6, 2022

Hometown Hero of the Week: Brittany Thomas, July 6, 2022

Our QDR Hometown Hero of this week is Brittany Thomas, CNA from Wilson.

Brittany was nominated by her father Ed, who says “I would like to nominate my daughter, Brittany Thomas as a QDR Hometown Hero. She has been a CNA for the past four years and absolutely found her calling. She started at the nursing home and then moved to the hospital. She served on the mother/baby floor for a year and a half and then moved to the ICU where she has been for over a year. Regardless of which department she has worked in, every single patient is her family member in her eyes, and that is the care that she gives them. She has facilitated many calls or FaceTimes with family members that could not visit their loved ones due to Covid. The vast majority of patients she serves have Covid. I can’t tell you how many patients’ hands she has held as they passed when a family member couldn’t be there. She has a thing that she does when she is with someone when they pass, she always opens the window. She says she does this so their soul can make it outside to go to heaven. She always has a smile for every coworker and patient. She is the biggest patient advocate you could ever imagine, and she personally delivers what she expects from others as well. In addition to being a CNA, she is also a nursing student. Last January, her fiancé suddenly and unexpectedly passed away in his sleep. They were planning their wedding for this past October. Yet with the threat of Covid, losing the love of her life, working full-time, and going to nursing school, she only missed two days of school despite her immense grief. She missed passing nursing school by one point. It was a very tough year. She’s still a CNA on the ICU floor and back again in nursing school. She has a fire in her belly and is so passionate about caring for other people, especially in the greatest time of need. She is so positive, kind, and full of life, and has a fierce determination that she will be a nurse and continue her mission in life. Her mother and I are so proud of her. She is our Hometown Hero.”

Thank you, Brittany, for your service! As a token of our appreciation, we’re sending you a gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q to thank you for all you do!
