CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Nate Sheppard had a 3-yard touchdown run with 40 seconds left and Duke got the two-point conversion to win at Clemson for the first time since 1980 with a 46-45 victory. The Blue Devils didn’t hesitate in lining up for the victory after Sheppard scored and quarterback Darian Mensah found Shamir Hagans for the winning points. Clemson has lost four games at home, the first time that’s happened since 1998. Mensah finished with 361 yards passing and a career-best four touchdown passes. Cade Klubnik, in his first game back since getting injured against Boston College last month, passed for 385 yards and two touchdowns for Clemson.… Continue Reading

(AP) — Demon June accounted for two touchdowns and nearly 200 yards on offense, Gio Lopez threw for two scores, and Bill Belichick won his first Atlantic Coast Conference game when North Carolina came from behind to defeat Syracuse 27-10. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Tar Heels (3-5, 1-3 ACC), while the Orange (3-6, 1-5) lost for the fifth consecutive time. No. 8 Georgia Tech is a front-runner in the race for spots in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game. Staying on course will require the unbeaten Yellow Jackets to avoid a misstep at N.C. State on Saturday night. This is the sixth time in Georgia Tech history that the team is 8-0 and the first since 1966. Former Duke player Kyle Singler charged with assaulting girlfriend in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Former Duke and Oklahoma City Thunder player Kyle Singler has been charged for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in Oklahoma. The 37-year-old Singler was arrested last week in the eastern Oklahoma town of Whitefield after someone called 911 to report Singler was chasing a woman. Singler was charged Tuesday in Haskell County with one misdemeanor count of assault and battery in the presence of a child. According to an arrest affidavit, Singler’s girlfriend told a sheriff’s deputy that Singler grabbed her head and forced her to the ground. Michael Brennan wins Utah Championship on an invitation and gets 2-year PGA Tour exemption

IVINS, Utah (AP) — Michael Brennan was dominant on the PGA Tour Americas this summer and just as dominant at the Bank of Utah Championship. He shot a 66 on Sunday for a four-shot victory at Black Desert. Brennan was a sponsor exemption who earned a Korn Ferry Tour spot as the leader of PGA Tour Americas. Now he bypasses the Korn Ferry Tour and has a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour with his victory. He also gets in the PGA Championship and the $20 million RBC Heritage. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — James Cook ran for a career-high 216 yards and two touchdowns, Josh Allen accounted for three touchdowns and the Buffalo Bills returned from their bye with a resounding 40-9 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Allen improved to 8-0 following the bye week and established an NFL record by becoming the first player to run and throw for a touchdown in 46 games, breaking the mark previously held by former Panthers QB Cam Newton. DALLAS (AP) — Miro Heiskanen scored his second goal of the game during a four-on-three power play with 8:42 remaining and the Dallas Stars beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2. The Stars trailed 2-0 after the first period before scoring the final three goals of the game. Carolina led 1-0 five minutes into the game on Jackson Blake’s unassisted goal. The Hurricanes increased their lead with 10.3 seconds remaining in the first period when Sebastian Aho scored. Dallas tied it at 2-2 on Sam Steel’s power-play goal. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — J’Mari Taylor scored on a 1-yard run in overtime, lifting No. 16 Virginia to a 17-16 victory over North Carolina on Saturday. The Tar Heels answered with Davion Gause’s 9-yard touchdown grab, but Ben Hall was stopped just short of the end zone on the ensuing 2-point try. Chandler Morris threw for 200 yards with one touchdown and one interception for the Cavaliers (7-1, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), who are off to their best start since 2007. NEW YORK (AP) — The head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers and a player for the Miami Heat have been arrested along with more than 30 other people in a takedown of two sprawling gambling operations that authorities said leaked inside information about NBA athletes and rigged poker games backed by Mafia families. Portland coach Chauncey Billups was charged Thursday with participating in a conspiracy to fix high-stakes card games tied to La Cosa Nostra organized crime families that cheated unsuspecting gamblers out of at least $7 million.
