Our QDR Hometown Hero of the week is John Holland, a firefighter with the Durham and Princeton fire departments.
John has been in the fire service since he was 16 years old. He started out as a Jr. Firefighter and has continued his education and career in the Fire Service. He is currently a full-time firefighter at Durham Fire Dept and a part-time firefighter at Princeton. John has also spent many years in the USMC, where he is currently ranked as a Staff Sergeant and is working towards his next promotion. While doing all this, John had brain surgery back in December. In January, he began having complications that led him to a 3 and a half week stay in WakeMed Hospital. He has a wife and 3 kids at home. While he was in the hospital, he ensured that the household was taken care of, continued attending his online classes for his Doctorate Degree, and fought hard to get better to get home to his kids. John has finally made it home and continues to show up for not just his kids, but all his nieces and nephews despite the limited movement and activities he can do. Not only is he a hero in his career, but he is also a hero to all his Nieces and Nephews for always being present for them. Nobody deserves this more than DADDY, and UNCLE J. Love his three kids, Zillah (Zi-lah), Makenna, and JT, and his 7 nieces and nephews.
John, as a token of our appreciation, we’re sending you a $50 gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q to thank you for all you do!
