Our QDR Hometown Hero of the week is Jamie Hughes, Retired Police Chief for the Town of Selma
Jamie was nominated as this week’s Hometown Hero by a coworker who wrote, “Jamie is the Selma Police Chief. Jamie began his law enforcement career at the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. Jamie came to the Selma Police Department in 2001. He worked his way through the ranks as a Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Detective, Captain, and the Police Chief. Jamie has been a great leader during his tenure at at the Selma Police Department. Jamie implemented the take-home car program, drone program with two certified drone operators, flock camera system all around the town, issued every officer a patrol rifle, obtained a UTV for community policing, secured a grant for a Traffic Safety Officer, and reinstated the criminal interstate interdiction team. Jamie is married to Lisa and they have two children. Their son is a Police Officer in Smithfield. Jamie has brought the Selma Police Department into the 21st century with current policies and great leadership skills. Jamie retired in April 2026, after 30 years of dedication to law enforcement. Jamie is my hero as we have worked together since 2001 and I am extremely proud to nominate him as QDR’s Hometown Hero.”
