RALEIGH, N.C. (WPTF) – The Wake County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged a teacher a Broughton High schools in connection with sexual assault against juvenile victims.
On Saturday May 2, 2026, deputies received a report of an alleged sexual assault that first occurred in 2005 in Wake County.
After an investigation and consulting with the Wake County District Attorney’s Office, Steven Kohls, 57, was charged with eight counts of sexual activity by a custodian, three counts of sex offense – parental role, and two counts of statutory sex offense of a child by an adult.
On Wednesday (May 13), Kohls was taken into custody and processed into the Wake County Detention Center.
Kohl was listed as a Career and Technical Education teacher at the Raleigh school. A message was sent to parents.
