Our QDR Hometown Hero of the week is Wanda Bowman, who has served 50 years as a registered nurse and 36 years as the Nurse Manager for the WakeMed Children’s Pediatric Unit!
After 36 years of dedicated service to WakeMed Children’s, Nurse Manager Wanda Bowman is retiring and leaving behind a legacy that will be felt for decades to come. Throughout her career, she has been the heart of the unit—leading with unwavering integrity, compassion, and strength. Under her direction, the unit thrived. She nurtured new nurses, empowered experienced ones, and created a culture where teamwork, respect, and compassion were not just expectations but were everyday practices. As she steps into retirement, she leaves behind not just an efficient unit, but a family—one she shaped with kindness, dedication, and a genuine love for nursing. Her impact will continue in the lives of every nurse she has mentored and every patient whose care she helped guide. Thank you from all of the WakeMed Children’s Pediatric nurses.
Congratulations on your retirement, Wanda, and thank you for your service to the community! As a token of our appreciation, we’re sending you a $50 gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q to thank you for all you do.
