Our QDR Hometown Hero of the Week is Herbie Stubbs, a law enforcement officer with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.
His nominator said: “Herbie has served over 25+ years in Law Enforcement, most of which have been as a School Resource Officer with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office. While serving as a SRO, he gives so much of his time to serving and being there for what he calls his kids. He won’t hesitate to stay over his normal work hours to be there for his kids. While on an Easter weekend trip to Ocean Isle Beach with his family, he noticed some kids in distress in the ocean by the pier. He jumped into action with his son and a friend, forming a human chain to get the kids back to the shore. Herbie and the others came out of it with minor cuts and scrapes from being around the pier pylons in rough water, but he did not hesitate to jump into action to save the kids.”
