Our QDR Hometown Hero of the week is Steven Kelly, a 911 dispatcher for Wayne County!
I am honored to nominate my husband for the Hometown Hero Award in recognition of his dedication and service as a 911 dispatcher. While many heroes are seen on the front lines, he is one of the calm, steady voices behind the scenes who helps save lives every single day.
As a 911 dispatcher, he is often the first point of contact for people experiencing some of the worst moments of their lives. Whether it’s a medical emergency, a fire, or a crisis situation, he remains calm under pressure, providing critical instructions and reassurance to callers while coordinating rapid response from emergency services. His ability to think quickly, stay composed, and show compassion in high-stress situations makes an immeasurable difference in our community.
What makes him truly special is not just his professionalism, but his heart. He carries the weight of these calls with him, yet continues to show up every day ready to serve others. He works long hours, often sacrificing time with family, holidays, and rest, all to ensure that someone in need is never alone in their moment of crisis.
To our family, he is everything but to countless strangers, he is a lifeline. His voice brings comfort, his actions bring help, and his commitment brings safety to our community. He may never meet most of the people he helps, but his impact on their lives is lasting and profound.
He is the definition of a hometown hero, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.
Steven, as a token of our appreciation, we’re sending you a $50 gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q to thank you for all you do!
