Our QDR Goldstar Teacher of the Month for May is Cara Register, 4th grade science and writing teacher at Neuse Charter School.
Cara was nominated by her mother, Cindy Register, who says, “Cara—a.k.a. ‘Ms. Register’—is my daughter. This is her fifth year teaching at Neuse Charter. I get to see the behind–the–scenes work she does to make it all fall into place. She has worked many hours over the summer researching learning methods, exciting ways to make the lessons come to life for her students, and making her classroom a positive learning environment for all the different learners. I also have the pleasure of volunteering in her classroom and around the school and get to see the kids light up when they put it all together or do a fun science experiment. Cara goes above and beyond. Her day, like a lot of other teachers, begins on campus about 7 a.m. or before, and often she is still there at 5 p.m. working to make the magic happen in her classroom the next day, or working on administrative tasks that often go unnoticed—but are important. Cara was the first Neuse Charter graduate to come back to teach at Neuse Charter, and she is not only loyal but also dedicated to making her classroom a learner–friendly place where students feel comfortable in and can accommodate the many learning styles of a diverse classroom. She has a special connection with the students who may need a little extra help over the learning humps. She cares, and it shows. It is amazing when we are “out and about,” and she sees either a current student or a former student, and they run up to her and give her a hug. That is what it’s all about. She is making a difference and providing a positive light in a world that is not always kind or caring to these young minds. In addition, she supports other areas of Neuse Charter by helping in their concession stand, working at their Fall Festival, or any other areas that may need an extra hand. Cara advocates for her students while being a steady light for them and providing a consistent learning environment for their fullest potential to be reached. She has an amazing way to see the things that make each student different and special in their own way, and she strives to implement learning techniques that are unique to them. She strives to live out the idea that it only takes one teacher to make a difference in a child’s life.”
To commemorate Ms. Register being named as QDR’s Teacher of the Month, she will receive a plaque from Creative Images in Cary, a $100 Visa gift card from April Stephens Team of eXp Realty, Make Your Move With Confidence, and a $100 gift card from Kanki Japanese House of Steak and Sushi, For Food, Fun, and A Little Fire.”
