Our QDR Hometown Hero of the week for 12/24/25 is William “Thomas” Lee.
Thomas was nominated by his sister, Michelle Holloman, who says her brother is her hero. Michelle adds, “Not all heroes wear capes—some wear turnout gear, a badge, and a heart full of selfless service. My brother, William Thomas Lee, is one of those heroes. He has dedicated his life to his family, his community, and his faith, and I can think of no one more deserving of the title ‘Hometown Hero.'”
Thomas began serving his community at the young age of 16, volunteering as a junior fireman with the Pine Level Fire Department. Even then, his sense of duty and compassion set him apart. While he pursued his education to become a teacher, he continued giving back—eventually joining Elevation Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter as well as the Johnston County American Red Cross as a volunteer and CPR Trainer. Teaching and helping others was always at the core of who he was.
In June 2009, he married the love of his life, Amanda Lee, and together they built a life grounded in faith and service. While working in the school system, Thomas realized his calling to serve went even deeper. That realization led him to a career in law enforcement.
For nearly 16 years, Thomas proudly served with the Smithfield Police Department. There, he wore many hats—officer, School Resource Officer, and patrol sergeant. His commitment, leadership, and integrity shone through in every role. In 2023, he took on a new challenge with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office as the Training Deputy Coordinator. His dedication and leadership were quickly recognized, and in January of this year, he was promoted to Deputy Sheriff Lieutenant and Assistant Chief Jailer.
Beyond his professional achievements, Thomas is a devoted husband, a proud father of two children, and a steadfast man of faith. He volunteers extensively through his church and serves as the District Director for the North Carolina Royal Rangers—a ministry that teaches boys and young men to evangelize, equip, and empower the next generation of Christlike men and servant leaders.
Thomas’s sister, Michelle, says, “To me, Thomas is more than a public servant—he’s my baby brother and my rock. After I lost my husband 17 years ago, Thomas never left my side. No matter the time or circumstance, he’s always just a phone call away. His support has carried me through some of my hardest days, and his unwavering presence has been a true blessing.
With deep love, pride, and admiration, I wholeheartedly recommend my brother, William Thomas Lee, as your Hometown Hero. His life is a testament to compassion, courage, and servant leadership. He doesn’t just wear a badge—he lives a life of purpose, honor, and love.”
Thank you, Thomas, for your service! As a token of our appreciation, we’re sending you a $50 gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q to thank you for all you do.
