Our Hometown Hero of the week is Tammy King, a nurse from Castalia!
Tammy was nominated by Alyssa who said: My mom Tammy is currently a travel nurse. When the pandemic began she volunteered to work in the Covid ICU without hesitation. About 7 years ago she started nursing school shortly after my dad’s recovery from a severe motorcycle accident. The accident gave her inspiration to leave her profession as an accountant of 20 years and become a healthcare worker. As the primary breadwinner, caregiver, and head of the household, she went to school during the day while working at night. After two years she obtained her RN. She then attended classes to obtain her BSN while working full-time as a nurse. We are all so proud of her and her decision to selflessly help others. She has made sacrifices all of her life to caring for her family, so it comes as no surprise that she chose this as her profession. Nursing is her true calling in life. She works tirelessly, sometimes 14-hour shifts, but she never complains about the pandemic and the new challenges that come with it. That is why she is our hero.
Thank you, Tammy, for your service! We’re sending you a gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q to thank you for all you do!
