Our Hometown Hero of the week is Traci Van Deventer, an EMS of Wake County!
Traci was nominated by Lisa who said: My daughter, Traci, has been a medic (EMT, Paramedic, Advanced Practice Paramedic, and Assistant District Chief) with Wake County EMS since 2013. She is a compassionate, empathetic, hard-working young woman determined to make a difference in the world. She provides excellent professional and thoughtful care to her patients and often goes above and beyond to serve the patients and their families during their emergencies. She is also dedicated to caring for fellow first-responders and is actively involved with the leadership of the North Carolina Peer Support, an organization dedicated to providing assistance by a trained individual or group of trained firefighters, law enforcement officers or EMS personnel who answer the call to their brothers and sisters in need, regardless of the need. She has organized and participated in fundraisers for individuals, gathered Christmas gifts for families in need, encouraged fellow first responders with a campaign to #spreadkindnessnotgerms (random acts of kindness to brighten their days), organized in June (through Medics with a Mission) BUCKETS OF LOVE which distributed buckets of gift cards, notes, snacks, and small gifts to 25 police officers (nominated by their peers), and helped prepare and distribute 100 meals to officers serving our communities. She often takes holiday shifts so her coworkers with young children may have the day off to spend with their families. She has cared for their children, helped them move, checked in on them when they are discouraged, arranged on-line information and therapy for first responders (NC Peer Support), and sat with them during times of personal crisis.
Thank you, Traci, for your service! We’re sending you a gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q to thank you for all you do!
