August is QDR’s Gold Star Teacher Appreciation Month! Meet today’s featured teacher: Katie Javens of Johnsonville Elementary School.
Katie was nominated by Anna who said “My son Jordan who has ADHD, Autism and Persuasive Developmental disorder went to Johnsonville Elementary School and had a lot of trouble through the 3rd and 4th grade. Ms. Javens was not his teacher at the time but was very good with helping my son when he was upset and having hard days. She became the school’s EC teacher and finally in the 5th grade they placed my son in her class. That’s when my son earned a B Honor Roll for the first time and he started to enjoy school and was learning at the grade level he was in without any problems. My little boy went from being in trouble or coming home upset because of school, to wanting to go to school everyday. He is now entering the 7th grade this month and she still calls to check on him, and we still see her. She was named the Harnett County Teacher of the year this past school year. Katie Havens is absolutely the most amazing and caring teacher I have ever met.”
Thank you so much for inspiring those around you Katie!
As our featured Gold Star Teacher of the Day for August 13th, Katie has won a $25 gift card to Crabtree Valley Mall and a 1-year Black Card Membership to Planet Fitness which grants you access to any of their 1,700+ locations, guest passes, use of massage chairs, tanning and more!
She’ll also have the chance to win the Grand Prize – $1,500 to stock their classroom courtesy of Crossroads Ford in Cary.
