We at 94.7 QDR want to thank all our Servicemen and Women here at home and overseas who serve our country each and every day! Submit your special "hero" and listen every Thursday morning at 8:20am to the Q Morning Crew.
I'd like to send a salute to my Dad who, though not a soldier, has been working for the past 2 years in Iraq and Afghanistan as a civilian State department employee assisting the local provinces with assisting citizens in setting up businesses, getting necessary supplies to re-open schools (especially for girls), empowering the citizens, and improving the local police and government force. We often hear of salutes for soldiers but I don't want us to forget the civilian men and women over there risking their lives in other ways, many of whom are older then the typical solder (my Dad is 64 years old). Every day he risks his life working within the community or attending town meetings, often with members of the Taliban. The work they do over there is tremendous and though I did not support this war, I hear the stories he is able to tell, stories that don't make the news (because who wants to hear good news), and I realize that we are doing good over there.
(I have not provided a picture or his name out of protection for our family)
