Brett Eldredge gives us an update on his own Flip Phone Challenge progress.
“I’m going for at least a month. I’m working on my next album and I wanted to be fully present and not be halfway through a lyric or a writing a song [when the phone went off]. I’ve been ‘in the dark’ as they say just connecting with life. It’s made a huge difference in songwriting and me as a person, mentally, health and all that.” Brett told Mike & Janie.
Our listeners Madison and Tyler have jumped onto the challenge. They’re realizing they don’t have a GPS and are really reliant on the phone. What advice do you have for them?
“It is a commitment and we are dependent on that stuff, but I really feel like those struggles are something to be mindful of. Our parents and grandparents got along just fine, and even we did not very long ago. Figuring out other ways to do those things, its an adjustment but I think it makes you a little bit more in the moment of figuring things out. I’m three weeks in, getting close to a month, and I’m not even sure at what level I want to go back. It makes you appreciate life a bit more.” Brett shared.
So, how is Wheless doing?
“Yesterday, I needed to video my HVAC unit running so I could show the serviceman what noise it was making so he could understand how to fix it. I reached for my flip and remembered I could not use it for video, so I had to grab Amy’s iPhone and wake her up from a nap to get the code to open the phone, then run outside to video. Then I remembered I couldn’t text it to myself so I had to email it myself.
Later, I sent out a picture of our cat Harley to Amy and Logan from my flip and didn’t get the “Aww, pretty kitty” response I expected. Instead, I got the “HAHAHAHAHA FLIP PHONE PIC!”
